Email: gary.titosky@gov.ab.ca | | Details: | A key function of Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD) is to provide timely information on forecasts and advisories for high stream flows, flooding and ice jams in rivers and streams in Alberta. The Ministry also provides information on Alberta's river basins including, river flows and reservoir status. ESRD currently uses Newleaf, Timestudio and a collection of custom applications to gather telemetry data from over 700 remote automated monitoring stations around the Province. Collected data is stored in Newleaf, where it is managed for quality, and is then transferred to Timestudio for analysis, modeling and distribution. In 2007 the Ministry identified the need to upgrade its legacy water management applications (Newleaf and Timestudio) so that it would continue to be able to maintain system support and meet expanding end user requirements. After completing an assessment of candidate replacement solutions the Ministry selected the Kisters Inc. WISKI product as the replacement application for its legacy water management business solution. In 2008 the Ministry engaged an external consulting organization to manage the implementation of the WISKI product. The key objectives for the project were and still continue to be: â¿¢ Ensure continuity of data and information services to Albertans based on Near Real Time Hydrometeorological data and to move the forecasting and water management functions from legacy and unsupported infrastructures to a vendor supported system. â¿¢ Mitigate risk to ESRDâ¿¿s ability to deliver timely and accurate information on impending floods, droughts and predictions on the volume of water available in Albertaâ¿¿s rivers and streams by: â¿¿ Ensuring that ample warning is provided to minimize risk to the safety and security of people and property in Alberta; â¿¿ Understanding water availability patterns in the province; â¿¿ Providing credible data required for assessing the state of the environment; and â¿¿ Measuring performance of the Water for Life Strategy includes monitoring activities on the use of water in Alberta and reporting to Albertans on the achievement of water conservation objectives | | Disclaimer: | This bid is researched and provided for information purposes only.
