About the Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health
The Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health (PCMCH) was created in 2008 by the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care (MOHLTC). Recognizing that the continuum of care within the maternal, newborn, child and youth health care system in Ontario ranges from health promotion and public health through primary to quaternary levels of care, the scope of the Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health (Council) is primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary maternal, newborn, child and youth health services, delivered in both community and hospital settings, and includes responding to the needs of disadvantaged communities across Ontario. The work of the Council reflects the importance of relationships and interfaces among providers and organizations across the continuum of care. The overall goal of the Council is to support the development of a system of care that provides timely, equitable, accessible, high quality, evidence-based, family-centred care in an efficient and effective manner.
