About the Art Gallery of Ontario
The AGO is incorporated under the Art Gallery of Ontario Act, 1966 and is a transfer payment recipient of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Province of Ontario. The AGO holds its collection of works of art in trust for the people of Ontario and is partially funded by the Ministry. Additional operating support is received from the City of Toronto, the Canada Council of Arts, and generous contributions from AGO members, donors, and private-sector partners. The AGO, located in Toronto, Canada, is among the most distinguished art galleries in North America. In November 2008, the AGO opened a newly renovated and expanded Frank Gehry-designed building to international acclaim. With a permanent collection of over 80,000 works of art spanning from 100 BCE to the present, the Gallery is at the forefront of the gallery field in developing new experiences with art for its visitors and members.
